How to download your Ally Bank transactions as CSV
Ally Bank answers "Can I download my account activity?" with yes: a download icon in your transaction history saves it as CSV or QFX. Short steps below, from Ally's FAQ.
Steps
- Log in to Ally online banking and select the account.
- Scroll to the Transactions History section.
- Select the download icon.
- Save the activity as a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file. The other option is QFX, which is for Quicken.
Good to know
- Ally's FAQ answer does not state how far back a download goes, and does not describe the CSV columns. UNKNOWN to us. Ally's list of online banking features separately says you can see up to 18 months of account activity, but it does not say whether that limit applies to downloads.
- The FAQ does not say whether the download is available in the mobile app. UNKNOWN. Try a browser on a computer first.
Have we tested an Ally file?
No. None of the public sample files we tested came from Ally. Few of our samples are from US banks at all. If the categorizer does not recognise the layout, you can pick the date and amount columns yourself.

Then categorize it free, offline
Open the categorizer, drop the CSV on the page, and it sorts every line into categories with monthly totals. The file is read inside your browser tab and is not uploaded.
Free: one file at a time, latest 3 months of it. Categories are automatic guesses; check them before using the numbers for tax. CSV only, no PDF.
