Guides: get your bank transactions into a CSV, then categorize them
Each export guide gives the steps from the bank's own help page, links to that page, and says plainly whether we have tested that bank's file format. If we could not find the steps on the bank's own page, we did not write the guide.
How to export your transactions to CSV
- Wise: web and app, up to 365 days per statement. Not tested by us.
- Monzo: app, CSV, PDF or QIF. Older sample tested.
- N26: web app account activity as CSV. One older sample tested.
- bunq: app and web, CSV, PDF or MT940. Older samples tested.
- Revolut: personal statements are PDF or Excel; how to save as CSV. Older samples tested; see the page's verification note.
- HSBC UK: CSV from the transactions list. Not tested by us.
- Wells Fargo: Download Account Activity, comma delimited. Not tested by us.
- U.S. Bank: online banking, up to 18 months. Not tested by us.
- Chase: what Chase's own page confirms (limited). Not tested by us.
- Ally Bank: CSV or QFX from Transactions History. Not tested by us.
- PayPal: activity report as CSV. Not tested by us.
Your bank is not listed? We only publish steps we can check against the bank's own help page. Most banks that offer a CSV download put it in the transactions list or in a statements or downloads menu. If you get a CSV from any bank, you can still drop it into the categorizer; if the layout is not recognised, you can pick the date and amount columns yourself.
After you have the CSV
- Categorize bank transactions in Excel or Google Sheets without uploading them
- Bank statement CSV to monthly budget
- An offline alternative to cloud bank statement converters
- Bank CSV dates look wrong: day/month or month/day?
What "tested" means here
We checked the categorizer against 37 public sample files from open-source importer projects, about 25 banks and apps, mostly European, a few US, none from the UAE. Most of the bank samples named above were part of the set we used while building the tool, so they are not an independent check. "Not tested by us" means we have not run a file from that bank. No guide on this site claims the tool works on your bank's file; the free version lets you try it before you decide anything.
Then categorize it free, offline
Drop a bank CSV on the page and every transaction is sorted into categories with monthly totals. The file is read inside your browser tab and is not uploaded.
Free: one file at a time, latest 3 months of it. Categories are automatic guesses; check them before using the numbers for tax. CSV only, no PDF.
