How to download your HSBC UK transactions as CSV
HSBC UK's PDF statements cannot be turned into a CSV. The CSV comes from the transactions list in online banking. Here are the steps from HSBC's help page.
Steps
- Log on to online banking.
- Choose the account whose transactions you want.
- Select Search and filter, then set the date range, amount and/or keyword.
- Select Search.
- Scroll to the bottom of the transaction list and click Download.
- Choose your file format (HSBC names Excel (xls) and csv) and select Continue.
Good to know
- HSBC says Excel and CSV are available only through the transactions list, not through the PDF statements. So the file follows your search filter, not a statement period.
- HSBC's page does not state a maximum number of transactions or months per download, and does not describe the CSV columns. UNKNOWN to us.
- This is HSBC UK's page. HSBC in other countries may differ. UNKNOWN.
Have we tested an HSBC file?
No. None of the public sample files we tested came from HSBC. The categorizer reads dates, amounts and the separator automatically, and if it does not recognise the layout it lets you pick the date and amount columns yourself.

Then categorize it free, offline
Open the categorizer, drop the CSV on the page, and it sorts every line into categories with monthly totals. The file is read inside your browser tab and is not uploaded.
Free: one file at a time, latest 3 months of it. Categories are automatic guesses; check them before using the numbers for tax. CSV only, no PDF.
