Categorize your ADIB transactions and see where your salary goes
Your salary arrives once a month and is gone by the next one. The statement shows every line, but not how much went to rent, food, transport or cash. This guide sorts an ADIB statement into categories and totals each month.
Step 1: Get the statement
You need your ADIB e-statement as a PDF. How to get it, and the limits of what we could verify, are in ADIB statement PDF to Excel or CSV. Use at least three months if ADIB gives you that range, because one month can include an unusual payment.
Step 2: Drop the PDF into the categorizer
Open the categorizer and drop the PDF in. It is read in your browser and not uploaded. Check the line that says how many rows were checked against your bank balance before you trust the totals.
Step 3: Mark your salary as Income
Find the credit that is your salary. How ADIB words that line on your statement is UNKNOWN to us (employers differ), so look at yours. If it is not already in the "Income" category, change it in the table and tick "Remember my changes as rules"; the next salary line with the same text is then sorted the same way. Your rules are kept in your browser only.
Step 4: Work through "Other"
The built-in rules look for keywords, mostly English and European merchant names. We have not measured how well they sort ADIB lines, and merchants written in Arabic letters mostly land in "Other". Filter to "Other", fix the biggest lines first, and let the rules remember them. Start with the merchants that appear most often.
Step 5: Read income, spending and net by month
The monthly table shows income, spending and net per category and month, as a chart and a table. Transfers between your own accounts are left out of spending unless you tick "Include transfers between accounts". Each currency is totalled separately; nothing is converted.
A question worth asking: what share of salary is gone to fixed costs (rent, utilities, subscriptions) before anything else? Then look at the two flexible categories that grew most.
Limits
- PDF import works for ADIB statements only. We tested one real ADIB statement: 545 of 546 rows read, 543 of 544 balance checks matched. Other ADIB statements can differ. Other UAE banks: use CSV if your bank offers one.
- Categories are automatic guesses. Review them before you act on the numbers.
- Free: one file at a time, latest 3 months of the PDF. Pro ($19, one payment) removes that limit. See pricing.
- This is not financial advice. It only adds up what your statement shows.
