The rule this calculator follows

The UAE government portal (u.ae), on end-of-service benefits for employees in the private sector, last shown as updated on 15 October 2026 when we read it, says for expatriate workers on full-time contracts (Article 51 of the Labour Law, Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021):

The formula, step by step

Assumptions you should know about

The official page does not say how to turn a monthly salary into a daily rate. We divide by 30, which is common practice but is our assumption. It affects every result, so confirm the method with your employer or MOHRE.

Years are entered as whole years plus months, with months counted as one twelfth of a year. Your employer may count exact days.

Worked examples

Basic salary AED 10,000, 3 years: 21 x 3 = 63 days; daily rate 333.33; gratuity AED 21,000.

Basic salary AED 10,000, 8 years: 21 x 5 = 105 days plus 30 x 3 = 90 days, 195 days in all; gratuity AED 65,000.

What this does not cover

Emirati employees follow the pension and social security rules instead. Employers can offer MOHRE's voluntary Savings Scheme in place of gratuity. Government, free-zone and domestic-worker rules can differ. The u.ae page does not describe different treatment depending on why the contract ended or on the contract type for full-time workers, and we have not tried to add any. The employer may deduct amounts you owe, and the page says all dues should be paid within 14 days of the end of the contract. All of this is a reason to confirm with MOHRE.

Frequently asked questions

Are allowances included in the gratuity calculation?

Not according to the u.ae page: gratuity is based on the last basic salary and does not include housing, transport, utilities or furniture allowances. Your contract may say otherwise, so check it.

Is there a minimum service period?

Yes. The u.ae page says a full-time worker with less than 1 year of continuous service is not entitled to gratuity. The calculator shows zero below one year.

Is there a maximum gratuity?

Yes. The total may not exceed the wage of 2 years. The calculator applies this as 24 times the monthly basic salary and tells you when it applies.

Does it change if I resign or am dismissed?

The u.ae page we used does not describe a difference by reason for leaving, so this calculator does not model one. Confirm with MOHRE for your case.

When must gratuity be paid?

The u.ae page says employers must pay outstanding wages, other entitlements and gratuity within 14 days of the end of the contract.

Is anything I type saved or sent?

No. The estimate is calculated in your browser and nothing is stored or sent.
